Handmade Save-the-Dates!

When we first got engaged (its been over a year now!) I had this crazy idea that I wanted to do everything for the wedding myself. Lots and lots of DIY projects. Well, as things progressed I realized that not only would that be an insane amount of work/pressure/decision making, but a lot of DIY projects turn out to be as expensive if not more expensive than simply hiring someone to do it for you.

However after doing a lot of research and because I am a card maker myself, I decided to tackle the project of our save-the-dates. I figured this would be a good test to see how it went and if I wanted to continue on the DIY path or not. The main thing that motivated me was the fact that we would save about $400 if I made them myself! Plus I was able to pick and choose all the little details, which is exactly what I love doing!

So I have finally gotten around to sharing my save the dates with you guys! I made these and sent them out months ago, and I finally made myself take some pictures so that I can share them on the blog! I was pretty proud of making theseSo I though I would share exactly how I made them!

I knew I wanted to incorporate at least one picture, preferably more. I really wanted one picture of me and Mike, and at least one picture with Lila in it as well. So I went through our engagement photos and picked out my favorites.
I used one of my favorite photo-decorating apps, A Beautiful Mess, to add the words "Save the Date" to the photo above.
I also used the same app to create the image you see below, so that I could cut out the pictures and use one per card.
Then I used another app which I have recently discovered, called Free Prints, to order all of the printed photos. Free Prints gives you 86 free prints per month, but you have to pay $10 for shipping, which still isn't bad for 86 photos. Its also great because you can order them right on your phone, using photos on your phone or on your social media, and they get delivered right to your door!
I had this stamp custom made for me by theRUBBERpress on Etsy. They were great at working with me to get the exact wording that I wanted on the stamp! I definitely recommend that shop!!!
I want to do some sort of diy project with this stamp now that I am done with it... any ideas? I was thinking maybe a Christmas ornament?
Luckily I had a bunch of envelopes in the exact right size in my stash, so we even saved money on those! I am so glad I took on this adventure, it was totally worth it! But in case you are wondering, we did decide to order our formal invitations from a local stationer! However I am going to be saving some money by assembling them myself, and you better believe I will be sharing them on the blog!!
Do you prefer to DIY big projects, or hire someone else to do it for you?

Mother's Day Card!

Hi guys! I just wanted to share this card that I made my Mom for Mother's Day! Lila made her one too, with the leftover flower petals, but I forgot to take a picture of it!
All I knew was that I wanted to make a hug flower shaped card that opened up - so I just improvised!
I'll be sharing more pictures from our Mother's Day soon!
Did you do any fun DIYs for Mother's Day?

DIY Minion Card!

I whipped up this card the other day for a birthday party Lila was invited to; minion themed of course! It's pretty self explanatory, I just used an image we had on a sticker. I thought the crooked smile added character! And how cute is that hair!?
The best part of this was that as I was making my card, Lila got inspired to make her own version of the card! She decided to make the one-eyed guy. I was so impressed that she cut out her own shapes, and used her glue stick to do all her own glueing! She even colored it and added legs - her idea!
Then she decided that she wanted to give her card to her friend, and keep mine for herself!
This was such a fun project, I think this will become a tradition now every time one of Lila's friends has a birthday!

Affordable Christmas Cards in the Shop!

Hi guys, today I wanted to share some new Christmas cards I recently listed in my Etsy shop!
This year has been the year of going through stock and making cards out of everything I have laying around! I am on a mission to use of the piles of paper and scrapes that I have been hoarding for far to long. This has been fun, because it means I get to make tons of new cards!
I've never been entirely sure how to sell my cards on Etsy. I've tried selling individual cards, sets of identical cards, groups of different cards, and (the most popular choice) blank stationary sets.
Here is an example of the blank stationary sets:
I am trying to find a happy medium between greeting cards and stationary, because I love making the greeting cards but stationary sells better. Something I am trying is groups of assorted greeting cards for a lower price.

Recent Cards in the Shop; Back to School!

All of a sudden, its back to school time! Not that me or my daughter are in school... but tis the season nonetheless. So I whipped up a few cute back-to-school-themed greeting cards sets, available for sale in my Etsy shop.
These cards would make great teacher gifts! They would also work to send a note to a thoughtful teacher, to tuck in your child's lunchbox or backpack with a sweet note, or to pass out to the other children in your child's classroom as a greeting or party invitation!
Shop for both sets here. Thanks for reading, and best of luck to you and your kids this year if any of you are in school!

DIY Valentine's Cards

Hi everyone! Today I would like to welcome you to my crafty brain. I want to share some cards that I have recently made.
I cut the letters by hand with glitter cardstock and used mod-podge to glue the letters to the cards!
I finally got my own heat embossing tool, and it is so much fun!
I used stamps on printed paper for this card, then I cut out the shapes and taped them onto the card!
Are you making any Valentine's cards this year? What's your favorite style?
